Berceuses des deux mondes

MM037
Release date: 31/01/2025

As our ears wander into the cacophony of a saturated world, drowned by the dissonance and excess of noise that besieges us, Rien Virgule invites us to explore sonic interstices, to slow down and resist the frenzy. With ‘Berceuses des deux mondes’ (‘Lullabies of the two worlds’), the deafening fires of the din are extinguished, the volume of the over-amplified world calms down, and music becomes a refuge. We listen as we contemplate a flickering candle flame, tinged with a luminous melancholy.

Two ears like two worlds: contrasts are reflected, musical pieces are transformed into movements, telluric spaces collide, crackle and resonate. With this fourth album, the band amplifies its musical geology, revealing barely perceptible forces, all in tension and subtlety, to sculpt chiseled soundscapes.

Rien Virgule‘s music is listened to like an opera, where each movement follows on from one another in a continuous flow of time. It requires attentive listening, a suspended moment, a total immersion, like a river of sound driving us from start to finish.

Like a sound wandering, the paths of this album transport us through fantastic landscapes: dizzying heights, unknown reliefs, zones of comfort and discomfort, sometimes troubled by auditory hallucinations. Our ears travel over frames of deep bass, torn by rough and ephemeral bursts, before softening under the caresses of raw and liberated vibrations.

Anne Careil‘s songs and synthesizers, sometimes ethereal, sometimes feverish, intertwine with Mathias Pontevia’s trapped and textured rhythms and Manuel Duval’s heartbreaking melodies. The lyrics, sung like mantras, are repeated to ward off pain, regain serenity, breathe and reconnect with a peaceful inner tempo.

‘Berceuses des deux mondes’ deploys physiological, ventral and consoling music to better listen to the beating of one’s heart and eardrum.

Rien Virgule, a sibling group since 2012, is composed of Anne Careil (vocals and synthesizer), Mathias Pontevia (horizontal drums) and Manuel Duval (horizontal synthesizers), after tragically losing one of its members in 2019, Jean-Marc Reilla.

They have published ‘Trente jours à grande échelle’ (2015), ‘Le couronnement des silex’ (2019), ‘La consolation des violettes’ (2021) and ‘Berceuses des deux mondes’ (2025) on the labels Murailles Music, La République des Granges, Permafrost and Zamzamrec.
