Nous sommes ravis d’accueillir en nos rangs désordonnés le mirifique devenu-trio RIEN VIRGULE, objet rock non aligné, dont les synthétiseurs médusants, batterie horizontale et teigne, voix féminine hiératique dont on peine à décider si elle est incendiaire ou glacée, froissent et dévoient de conserve poèmes étranges et structures pop,

As our ears wander through the cacophony of a saturated world, drowned in the dissonance and excess of noise that besieges us, Rien Virgule invites us to explore sonic interstices, to slow down and resist the frenzy. With ‘Berceuses des deux mondes’ (‘Lullabies of the Two Worlds’), the deafening fires of the din are extinguished, the volume of the over-amplified world subsides, and music becomes a refuge. We listen as though contemplating a flickering candle flame, imbued with luminous melancholy.
Two ears like two worlds: contrasts are reflected, musical pieces transform into movements, telluric spaces collide, crackle, and resonate. With this fourth album, the band amplifies its musical geology, revealing barely perceptible forces, all marked by tension and subtlety, to sculpt finely chiseled soundscapes.
Rien Virgule‘s music is experienced like an opera, where each movement seamlessly flows into the next in a continuous passage of time. It demands attentive listening, a suspended moment, total immersion — like a river of sound carrying us from start to finish.
Like a sonic journey, the paths of this album transport us through fantastical landscapes: dizzying heights, unknown terrains, zones of comfort and discomfort, at times troubled by auditory hallucinations. Our ears traverse frameworks of deep bass, torn by raw and fleeting bursts, before softening under the caress of raw and liberated vibrations.
Anne Careil‘s vocals and synthesizers, sometimes ethereal, sometimes feverish, intertwine with Mathias Pontevia’s intricate and textured rhythms and Manuel Duval’s haunting melodies. The lyrics, sung like mantras, repeat to ward off pain, regain serenity, breathe, and reconnect with a peaceful inner tempo.
‘Berceuses des deux mondes’ offers music that is physiological, ventral, and consoling, enabling listeners to tune in to the beating of their hearts and eardrums.
Rien Virgule, a sibling-like group since 2012, is composed of Anne Careil (vocals and synthesizer), Mathias Pontevia (horizontal drums), and Manuel Duval (horizontal synthesizers). The band endured a tragic loss in 2019 with the passing of one of its members, Jean-Marc Reilla.They have released ‘Trente jours à grande échelle’ (2015), ‘Le couronnement des silex’ (2019), ‘La consolation des violettes’ (2021) and ‘Berceuses des deux mondes’ (2025) on the labels Murailles Music, La République des Granges, Permafrost and Zamzamrec.
